AMOREM receives grant from Broyhill Family Foundation
A faulty hot water heater recently resulted in a temporary loss of hot water in a commercial kitchen that serves one of AMOREM’s patient care units.
AMOREM, a local non-profit hospice provider, has four inpatient hospice facilities throughout its service area.
Recently at AMOREM’s Jack and Shirley Robbins Center campus in Hudson the commercial hot water heater stopped working, requiring the organization to purchase meals from outside sources for the patients and their families being served at the Forlines Patient Care Unit at that time.
“We were able to repair the boiler, but it was evident it needed to be replaced,” said Kerri L. McFalls, AMOREM’s senior director of marketing and development. The cost to purchase and replace the dysfunctional equipment was $35k. “This is a significant unexpected cost for our organization. Around 6,000 meals are prepared annually in that commercial kitchen, so it was evident we needed to find a resolution quickly.”
AMOREM identified the Broyhill Family Foundation as a potential grantor to assist with the sudden need.
“The Foundation generously approved AMOREM’s funding request to cover the entire cost of the equipment and replacement of the commercial hot water heater at the Forlines Patient Care Unit in Hudson,” McFalls said. “The quick turnaround time from when the request was submitted to when the funds were received made it possible for us to immediately order the new equipment.”
The new equipment will be installed before the end of the month.
“We appreciate the continued support from the Broyhill Family Foundation,” McFalls said. “They have made such a positive impact with non-profits in our community for many years, and we are grateful for their partnership.”
