On the other side...

AMOREM’s Director of Public Relations Lisa Caviness has been with AMOREM for more than 13 years. In her role, one of her primary responsibilities is to educate the communities AMOREM serves on the benefits of hospice and palliative medicine.
Last year Lisa experienced all of it first-hand.
Here’s her story, from the other side of the badge.
For more than thirteen years, I have worn a badge that identifies me as a team member…first of Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care and, since 2021, of AMOREM. During that time, I have worked to communicate the great benefits of hospice and palliative medicine to our community, patients, families and the medical community that serves them. I have done so very confidently, because I believe we offer a valuable service that improves quality of life.
But that changed on January 14, 2025, when I was suddenly on the other side of that badge. I became a daughter whose father was a hospice patient. I experienced first-hand the benefits that I have promoted for years through articles, ads, billboards, social media and more. I experienced first-hand an access and enrollment team who patiently answered my family’s questions and worked together to make a difficult process move quickly and smoothly. I experienced first-hand a patient care unit team and chaplain who treated my father with dignity and respect, and made him more comfortable than he had been in weeks. They also took care of our family in ways we didn’t even realize we needed.
My father, Thurman Chapman, died on January 15, 2025, in one of our patient care units.
I continue to experience first-hand the grief support from a team whose compassion is evident. As I have transitioned back behind that badge, I continue to experience compassion and support from my work family.
Before this experience I believed what our team does makes a difference, but now I know on a much deeper level that it can make all the difference in the world! You make me proud to be part of this team…THANK YOU.
