More than a decade of support in the High Country

“I felt like it would be hard for AMOREM to improve from the high quality of service that they have provided in the High Country for years but, I have watched the organization grow with the High Country and with the community here,” says High Country local Tim Baxter. “This has done nothing but spread the positive word that AMOREM is the gold standard for hospice care and palliative medicine in this area.”
Baxter, a former on-air talent for multiple radio and television stations, along with his wife Janice, now own Baxter Marketing and Baxter Mountain Properties in the High Country, have supported AMOREM, dating back to the very first patient that legacy Caldwell ever served in the High Country more than 10 years ago.
His experience with AMOREM began as a liaison and an advocate for Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, which is one half of the founding organizations of AMOREM. He introduced team members in the low country to notable High Country residents and involved himself with the marketing efforts of Caldwell Hospice serving the High Country.
“I became somewhat of a spokesperson for legacy Caldwell,” Baxter said. “I had known for years that AMOREM was the standard of care that needed to be strived for, and I was more than excited for this care to be coming to the High Country to serve this community.”
Beyond his involvement in the infancy of Caldwell Hospice serving the High Country, Baxter and his family have also had personal experiences with the care provided by AMOREM and its team members.
The Baxter family had the honor of caring for two of their personal friends, who were sisters, during their end-of-life journeys. When the time came to decide on end-of-life care, Baxter knew that AMOREM was the only choice and did not consider any other care provider.
“The process of admitting our first friend into hospice care was seamless,” says Baxter. “Our friend had been in the hospital before being admitted to AMOREM and the process of moving her onto hospice care was impressively smooth.”
When the end-of-life journey began for the second friend, she stated that she wanted the same level of wonderful care that her sister received from AMOREM. Again, Baxter knew that AMOREM was the provider of choice and that AMOREM would compassionately provide the same comfort and care that her sister had received.
“I don’t know why anyone would consider going anywhere else,” says Baxter. “To me, there is no choice but AMOREM.I wouldn’t say it if it weren’t true.”
Baxter has witnessed AMOREM grow in the High Country for more than 10 years and expresses how gratifying it has been to hear stories in the community from families, just like his, who have utilized AMOREM services. Each day, he watches the organization provide more quality, more compassion and more support to residents of the High Country and their loved ones.
Now, AMOREM is constructing a patient care unit in Boone for those who call the High Country home. The patient care unit will have 7 patient rooms, a homelike environment and a full-time, local staff present to provide the highest quality of care to patients and their families.
“Amazingly, AMOREM is taking the step to provide a patient care unit to residents of the High Country,” says Baxter. “I have heard for years how much people have desired this kind of care in the community and the fact that AMOREM has listened to the community and will provide this to the High Country will bring so many families peace and comfort. Again, this shows that AMOREM is the gold standard.”
Hospice patients often need more support to address pain, symptoms and needs at the end of life than can be provided at home. The patient care unit will serve as a place to provide holistic support to patients and their families.
Upon completion of the patient care unit, the structure will include an estimated 2,878 concrete blocks and 13,038 stones. It is easy to look at a building and lose sight of the individual components that make up the whole. It is important to remember that each concrete block and stone will be picked up and placed by hand, one at a time, to accomplish the mission: a patient care unit for the High Country.
The same rings true with AMOREM’s mission and philosophy of care: to provide quality, thoughtful, loving care to patients…one patient and one family at a time.
“You can not get better hospice care than AMOREM. You may think that there is a choice but if you want the absolute best for your loved one, there is no choice. It’s AMOREM,” says Baxter.
