AMOREM hosts open house for new patient care unit

AMOREM has completed the construction of the first hospice patient care unit in the High Country and welcomes the community to visit the facility before it opens for operations.
The completion of the facility is one that has been highly anticipated by the community.
“This patient care unit is more than a building—it’s the embodiment of our mission,” says AMOREM CEO April Moore. “Born from a family’s love and built through a community’s commitment, it stands as a special space where quality, thoughtful and loving care surrounds patients, supports families and honors every life. It is our hope that each person who enters find the peace, compassion and comfort that first inspired this vision."
In partnership with the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, AMOREM will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 25th at 2 p.m. Following the program, guests will be invited to participate in self-guided tours through the new facility. For those who are unable to attend the 2 p.m. program, they can still drop in for a tour up until 4 p.m.
AMOREM, your local, nonprofit hospice provider, has served the High Country since 2014 and currently operates patient care units in Caldwell and Burke counties.
In 2021, seeing a growing need for a patient care unit to serve the High Country, AMOREM petitioned the state of North Carolina and was approved to build a 7-bed patient care unit. As soon as the petition was approved, AMOREM launched the Quality. Compassion. Support capital campaign to raise funds to build the facility. The organization has raised more than $6 million of the needed $8.1 million goal to cover the cost of the project.
Recently, an anonymous donor made a pledge to match dollar for dollar raised up to $250k.
“We feel confident we can reach out $8.1 million dollar goal, but we need the community’s support to get there,” said Chief Growth and Development Officer Kerri L. McFalls. “No gift amount is too small and now with the matching gift challenge, your gift is worth double. It takes all of us coming together to make this happen. The community has been so supportive since we started this journey, and I know they will rally around us to finish it out. Together we are making history.”
AMOREM also is actively recruiting staff to operate the patient care unit. They are seeking nurses and certified nursing assistants to work day and night shifts and positions in housekeeping and dietary.
